Diesel Marine Electric, Inc. has been a family owned business since 1961 and is currently on its third generation of Dold family ownership. Larry Dold founded, what is now known as Diesel Marine Electric, as Auto Electric of San Leandro. The business was a successful auto repair shop for more than twenty years ran by Larry and later his son Steve.

In 1984 Steve purchased Auto Electric and changed the name to Diesel Marine Electric. Steve could see the need for a good rebuilding facility that could handle the starting and charging systems for bus, forklift and marine industries. The name Diesel Marine Electric comes from the company shifting toward ELECTRIC motors off of DIESEL powered vehicles. MARINE is for the company’s close proximity to the San Francisco Bay and the very active marine industry.

Through the 80’s and 90’s, Diesel Marine began to service the transit agencies of Northern California with a full rebuilding facility for DC motors, with starters, alternators and DC forklift motors being their specialty. Our location in the San Francisco Area allowed us to service all of the local tour bus and transit authorities, along with the growing forklift and marine industries.

In 1991, at the age of fourteen, Steve’s son Anton took an interest in the business and began working summers to learn the trade. As the 90’s came to a close Steve & Anton saw the rebuilding business fading and began to invest more in new units for their many customers. In 2000 Anton purchased Diesel Marine Electric, Inc. and in the same year began doing business with Elreg Distributors. The business partnership has helped Diesel Marine carry more high quality new units and parts, to go along with the great service values and years of knowledge and experience.

Diesel Marine Electric provides outside sales and tech support along with a local pickup and delivery service. We can ship overnight to many locations and within a couple of days to anywhere on the US west coast. With the partnership of Elreg Distributors as well as becoming a warehouse distributor of Penntex, Diesel Marine can service the charging & starting requirements of every Transit, Coach & Bus fleet.
