How to Install Your MP Bus Circulator Pump Correctly

The Best Circulator Pumps in the Industry

A good circulator pump helps your vehicle draw more heat from the engine, using it to

keep your drivers and passengers comfortable instead of immediately dumping the heat to the outside air.

For some engine models, circulator pumps are absolutely essential. For others, circulator

pumps are more of a luxury.

The industry leader is MP Pumps, producing 12 and 24 volt heater booster pumps, and it’s the only manufacturer we need to carry. Nobody does it better than MP Pumps.

Before replacing your bus heater booster pumps, familiarize yourself or your shop staff with the recommended installation standards below. Adhering to these standards will keep your pump running efficiently for years.

How to install your MP bus circulator pump right

  1. Horizontal mounting is ideal for pumps with mechanical seals. This allows a proper coolant flow path for seal lubrication. Damage may occur if your pump is mounted in a vertical position with the motor underneath the pump.
  2. Mounting – For models with flange connections the motor does not require further restraint. For systems that cannot carry the weight of the pump, the motor should be secured with a strap clamp or optional base. Take care to properly align the pump, motor and plumbing. Poor alignment will severely damage the pump and motor, voiding your warranty.
  3. Mounting – For hose connection models the motor should be secured by strap clamp or optional base.
  4. Never run the pump dry. Most MP Circulator/ Booster pumps are equipped with a mechanical seal that can fail prematurely under dry run conditions.
  5. Locate the pump away from ambient temperatures exceeding 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Coolant temperatures in excess of 210°F are also not recommended. High temperatures will reduce the life of motor components.
  6. Never expose the pump to extremely wet or dirty conditions. Pump should be mounted away from highly contaminated areas or shielded from the environment when possible.
  7. Use of additives in cooling systems can cause excessive wear and premature failure. Check with factory on coolant additive usage.
  8. 24-volt systems should never exceed 30-volts. 12-volt systems should never exceed 15-volts.

With the use of the above installation parameters, each MP pump will provide many years of trouble free service. Ignoring the installation criteria could cause premature failure and voids your warranty.
